Whether you’re suffering from a specific injury or feel the aches and pains from playing sport regularly, sports massage is fantastic way to enhance your sporting performance and prevent injuries from reoccurring.
Does sports massage hurt?!
Although some people have a negative perception of sports massage, it’s really not that bad! It’s similar to a deep tissue massage, but we need to be a lot more careful when working round injuries or strains.
We work within your limits to make sure it’s a comfortable experience which doesn’t leave your dreading your next visit. You might even enjoy it!
How does sports massage work at Massage Oxford?
We’ve worked with sports scientists and physiotherapists to develop expertise and knowledge in the field of sports massage. Depending on your injury or areas of discomfort, we’ve got a wide range of techniques designed to leave your body in optimal condition once the massage is finished. Everything is catered towards your specific needs, so it’s a truly bespoke massage.
Before any massage we’ll have a chat about the problems you are experiencing and we will suggest the solutions we can offer. You’ll also be asked to complete a short medical form.
How often should I get a sports massage
A regular sports massage is always more beneficial, and it’s especially useful for recovery directly after an intense workout. For a footballer that might be after a long training session, or for a marathon runner it would be right after a long training run.
Leaving long intervals between sports massages means you’re not getting the full benefit from them, so it’s best to get booked in at least once a month if you do sport regularly.
Does sports massage help with injury recovery?
If you’re undergoing a physiotherapy treatment plan, we’ll make sure that we work in tandem with your schedule to make sure you get the best chance of making a full recovery.
We tend work from head to toe rather than focusing on just one area, although packages that work on specific areas are available. Everything in the body is connected, so there’s no point concentrating on one spot. All of our sports massage services are designed to improve your overall performance.
